Invisalign – Orthodontics for Adults

What is it
Invisalign – sometimes referred to as the “invisible braces” – are a method of orthodontics for adults, teens and
children that uses custom-made sets of clear, plastic aligner trays. Developed by Align Technology in the late
90s, Invisalign broke new ground in the industry by eliminating the need for traditional metal brackets and wires.

How it works:

Your orthodontist takes impressions of your teeth, as well as x-rays, which are used to create a 3D image of your teeth.
The 3D image is used to identify a precise treatment plan and a series of plastic aligners, custom made for you.
The aligners are clear and worn over top of your teeth. As you wear each set, your teeth gradually and gently shift into their correct place, as determined by your orthodontist’s plan. This is virtually the same process as traditional braces, but with different technology.
You receive a few sets of aligners, so that you can pop in a new set approximately every two weeks, without having to visit the orthodontist.
After every six weeks or so, you simply check in with your orthodontist, so he or she can monitor your progress and provide you with a new series of aligners.
Treatment time is comparable to traditional braces for adults – typically about a year, though each case is unique.

You brush and floss as usual, because you can remove the aligners.
